A Recipe To Drool Over

My Aunt Kerry is not only the sweetest woman in the world but she is also an amazing cook. When I think of her I think of summer days, white sand, delicious meals & the queen of family time. I am so lucky to have her as my auntie. She recently gave me my first cook book & tonights dinner was the first of many that will come from it. Thank you so much Aunt Kerry, the second I saw all of the delicious recipes I was making meal plans like it’s my job.

The most difficult (& by difficult I mean time consuming) thing in this recipe is chopping & cooking your onions. Give yourself plenty of time, and I recommend buying yourself a Kitchen Aid chopper to make it easier on your eyes. I also bought oven-safe bowls from Smiths Marketplace that are PERFECT.

On the menu tonight: French Onion Soup

You will need:

6 large white, sweet onions thinly sliced

3 Tbsp of butter

6 Beef bouillon cubes dissolved in 6 cups of water

1 1/2 tsp Worcestershire Sauce

1/2 tsp salt

1/8 tsp pepper

6 slices of French bread or toast

1/4 cup of grated Parmesan cheese

Brown the onions in butter in a large deep skillet until tender. Add bouillon and seasonings. Heat thoroughly. Place a slice of toasted bread in each soup bowl either before or after pouring soup in the bowl. Sprinkle with (plenty) of cheese & broil for a few minutes. Enjoy!

I’m not a proud cook or anything…. :)

Shall We Dance?

Tonight I decided to play nice with Tofu & make a teriyaki tofu bowl for dinner. It was my first time handling tofu, so I wasn’t quite sure how it would turn out. I pan fried it, and followed these instructions. It is definitely something you need to be patient with, if you rush it then it burns the outside & makes it oily. I haven’t been cooking dinner on nights that Andy works late, but I decided I need to do it even when he is gone. He doesn’t like tofu anyway, so it was a good little dinner for me, myself, and I.

After dinner I indulged in some trashy reality tv (Mob Wives, Teen Mom 2, T.I. & Tiny, just to name a few). Tomorrow is my day off and I don’t have any homework tonight. So I decided to skip the cleaning, studying, and reading for the night and just relax.

I’ve been trying to keep my nails natural, but I love nail polish too much. I am itching for Spring and pastel colors are my favorite right now. I tried this new pattern, which was super easy. The pink coat was the first one I did. Then I did the blue on top a couple of hours after. I wanted to make sure they were completely dry before I added the next coat, if not they tend to bubble. I didn’t use tape because I didn’t have any at home — But I didn’t have a problem keeping a steady hand. What are some of your favorite colors lately?

I want to end on a more serious note tonight. I’ve seen some videos of kids with the genetic disease called Progeria, meaning “prematurely old.” I feel like a lot of people don’t understand what the disease does — and that these children are simply trying to live a normal life. I saw this video and it truly touched my heart. By far one of the best I have seen. I hope you have the same feelings towards it.

All my love, B

Today I Am Loving…

This man bouquet. Every man would love this, I guarantee it. I’m ready for my lady bouquet, which would entail bubbly, lipstick, makeup brushes, & whatever else. (Not tampons. We can take care of that. Thanks though)

These bite sized pieces of baked brie. I was raised in a home where garlic & brie are a favorite, so I am all about these.

This man, for reminding me that sometimes you just have to jump and know that someone will catch you… And for being the one I can trust enough to do so. (Oh & for loving me even though I’m crazy) I love you so much.

This loft bed with a built in closet underneath. I love how simple it is, and the organization is awesome. I can’t stand childrens bedrooms with toys & what not just laying there waiting until you roll your ankle on them or puncture your foot.

This look

This woman! 83-years-old Bette Calman is living proof that the ancient art of yoga can do wonders on the human body. Bette Calman has been practicing and teaching yoga for the last 40 years and, although other people her age can hardly move anymore, she can pool of difficult yoga moves that put teenagers to shame. She can execute the “peacock” a difficult position in which the body is held horizontally, using only the power of the arms,  the “bridge”, “lotus” and can stand on her head with unnatural ease. Asked when she is going to retire, Calman said ‘You’re never too old. The body is a remarkable instrument. ‘It can stretch and stretch, and get better all the time. Forget age’ Ms Bette Calman teaches up to 11 classes every week, in Williamstown, Australia, teaching others the remarkable effects of yoga.

Because she could probably kick my ass.

Getting seconds at our work luncheon (because I can)

Savers providing me with an oversized sweater that I can’t get enough of. It probably came from a 90 year olds closet, but sweaters don’t require background checks. As long as they can mingle with my Litas & non-traditional Christmas nails, we’re fine.

My amazing grandma. I love her everyday, but especially when she sends me to work with airborne, crackers, & detailed instructions for nursing a cold/inversion-rebellion. She also knew exactly where my leg warmers were this morning when I was frantically trying to find them before work. ‘What would you do without me?’ Well grandma, I don’t have a clue.

So there are a few of my favorite things. What are you loving today?
